Profumum Dolci Pensieri Perfume Review

Profumum Roma Dolci Pensieri Eau de Parfum is an indulgent, candied rose with sweet peony; the two together have an almost syrup-like quality and lean somewhat into the aroma of ripened fruit. The vanilla drifted in and out of a range of detection but was more present in the drydown where the rose married with the vanilla and sandalwood, though it always seemed heavy on the fruity-candied-rose. These are the listed notes:

• top notes: peony
• heart notes: rose, geranium
• base notes: vanilla, sandalwood

Scent Development

It opened with a bouquet of sweet, jammy rose and then sweet peony that turned the rose into a syrup, slightly cotton candy-like. Within five minutes, the more lemony, green geranium note flitted through and made the rose more dimensional, though still quite sweet. The introduction of something powdery diffused the jammy rose and stretched it, further reducing some of the initial sweetness. Nevertheless, the rose was almost candied at times with a touch of lemon.

The vanilla added warmth, more of a spiced vanilla aspect, after 20 minutes of wear. The sweetness of the rose continued to mellow through the first half hour, and as it did, the rose itself became more floral and full in its bloom. It shifted back to a much sweeter, candied rose with vague vanilla at the third hour and continued in that vein until the drydown, which appeared near the 10-hour mark with a base of vanilla and sandalwood but was still more dominated by a very sweet rose.

Application

For testing, I used 1/3 of a 0.7ml sample vial dabbed to the underside and topside of my wrist area . I used an unscented moisturizer prior to applying the scent as I found scent did not hold well here otherwise. 

I purchased my sample in January 2022; fragrances are known to be reformulated over their lifetime , so be mindful of when a review was made, e.g. a review from 2010 may not reflect what the same-named perfume smells like in 2022.

Longevity

It lasted for 10 hours until it was a skin-scent and about 16 hours before it was quite difficult to detect on my skin. The sillage and projection were moderate with both getting closer after four hours.

Personal Thoughts

If the sandalwood had come through more noticeably and sooner, I think I could have enjoyed this more, but I kept wanting the sweetness of the rose to get contrasted with something as it was, on the whole, sweeter than my preferences.
